My favorite pretzel treat

by Courtney Schultz

I’ve recently made a huge hobby out of making these incredible caramel and chocolate covered pretzel rods. They are so delicious, and I fell in love with them back in Indiana where my friend Jen had a business making them. Since gatekeeping is so last year, she gave me a few great pointers and set me on my way to making a fun hobby out of them. This week, I’m hundreds deep with a big batch that I intend to donate for a fundraiser at the kids’ school. The event is a car show put on by the school’s Dads’ Club so I tried to incorporate some popular car colors, and the *temporary* name for these little treats could literally not be more perfect. Ready for it?

Hot rods. I die. (Thanks to my sis for that catchy name).

Unfortunately, I don’t think that theme will work forever, so I need to find something else to call these delicious treats when I do make them!

They’re definitely a labor of love, so even though they’re incredibly SIMPLE in nature, they do require lots of practice and lots of time. Here is everything I’m currently using if you want to take a stab at it yourself! And if you would rather order them than attempt them at home, definitely check out Jen’s shop! There’s only one Pretzee Company and she is the O.G. Pretzel making Queen.

Speaking of prep, do you see what I see in this photo? If you don’t, look a little closer.

It’s a totally clear acrylic cutting board that slides right up against the edge of your counter for convenient cutting without creating an eyesore (quite the opposite in fact, as it’s almost entirely invisible!). A perfect kitchen addition if you’re low on counter space and don’t want to cover your beautiful counters with a big clunky cutting board. Disclaimer: if you are using this cutting board to cut your caramel for pretzels, keep in mind the caramel is a very sticky substance and consider lining your cutting board with parchment paper first.
