Sweater Vest Styling – Fall 2021 Trends

by Courtney Schultz

I fell hard for the Fall 2021 trend report, and the trend that has caught my attention more than any other, I think, just may be the sweater vest trend. I decided to grab a few different styles to see what worked best for me, and dangit I liked them all. Love/hate when that happens!

First style I grabbed was a super traditional cable knit style in an oversized fit. I wasn’t loving most of the styles out there that were cropped so as you’ll see throughout the post, I stuck with styles that had a big, cozy feel to them and this vest delivered. It is almost too oversized for the tuck, but I think it just works as shown here with faux leather shorts or would work equally well over black leather leggings/jeans. During these early Fall days where it still feels too warm for layers, a vest without a base layer is a perfect option to achieve a great fall look without making you sweat all day long.

The second style is almost identical but a mini dress vest that looks amazing with knee high suede boots. This outfit is perfect for date nights, GNO, and if you layered it with some tights and a turtleneck, I think it would even be great for work. I sized up one size and I’m very happy with the fit! Just be aware of undergarments showing through the larger arm holes when foregoing the undershirt (may be good to add a cami to this one!).

The next two styles are really special because they are a one size option which actually makes them incredible giftable for the upcoming holiday season (too soon???). Rather than worrying about guessing someone’s size, you can trust that these more forgiving styles will look good on many body types. I love them both and again, think they would be fabulous paired with a thin turtleneck or base layer.

The fourth and final sweater vest is another one size option from Anthropologie and I love the subtle heart print. If you didn’t read the description, you might not even know it was crocheted into a heart pattern, but if you’ve known me at all, you know I kind of have a thing for hearts, so this one is right up my alley.
